Heavy-duty seamless gutters

Seamless gutters set up for snow load, freeze-thaw and the spring melt.

Heavy-duty seamless gutters are aluminum gutters formed on site in one piece per run, with a heavier gauge, closely spaced hangers and larger downspouts. For Wausau-area homes, where the gutters spend months under snow and ice, that extra strength is what keeps them on the house and draining in spring.

What sets them apart?

  • Gauge. Thicker aluminum resists denting from ice and ladders.
  • Hangers. More hangers per run, screwed into rafter tails or solid fascia.
  • Size. 6-inch gutters and 3-by-4-inch downspouts on larger or steeper roofs.
  • Position. Set so snow sliding off the roof is less likely to rip the gutter off.
  • Fewer seams. Seamless runs leave joints only at corners and outlets.

Signs your gutters aren't strong enough

  • Bent sections after every winter
  • Gutters tipped forward or pulled loose
  • Seams opening up after freeze-thaw
  • Downspouts crushed or split
  • Overflow during spring melt and summer storms

Why Wausau needs sturdier gutters

The Wisconsin State Climatology Office lists 64.3 inches of normal snowfall a year for Wausau, and the same normals give June, the wettest month, 4.67 inches of precipitation. Gutters here carry the weight of snow and ice for months, go through repeated freeze-thaw, then take a rush of meltwater in spring and thunderstorms in summer. Light-gauge builder gutters hung with spikes don't last long under that.

What affects the cost?

  • Total feet of gutter and the height of the walls
  • Gauge, size and hanger spacing
  • Number and size of downspouts
  • Fascia repair once the old gutters come down
  • Adding guards or heat cable in the same visit

We don't quote prices. The installer you're connected with measures and prices the job.

Replace or repair?

If one run was bent by a single storm, a repair may be enough. If the whole system is light-gauge, undersized or failing after every winter, replacing it with heavier gutters usually ends the cycle.

Common questions

What makes a gutter heavy-duty?

Usually a heavier aluminum gauge, hangers spaced more closely and screwed into solid wood, and larger downspouts. Ask the installer which of these they include.

Is 6-inch better than 5-inch here?

Larger gutters and downspouts carry more water and are slower to clog or freeze shut. Whether you need them depends on the roof size and pitch.

Can new gutters be installed in winter?

Sometimes, depending on weather and the installer. Fall is the easiest time.
